NSB Raises Money for The Progeria Research Foundation

North Shore Bank Employees Raise Money for The Progeria Research Foundation

On Fridays, customers of North Shore Bank will find their favorite bankers sporting casual attire and something a little unusual for the ordinary banker - denim jeans. That’s because at North Shore Bank, Friday is Jeans Day. In exchange for $5 each week, employees wear jeans to work while the proceeds collected are pooled together for the month and then donated to an area charity that is recommended by the employees.

Recently Christopher Pesce, North Shore Bank Marketing Officer, presented Audrey Gordon, Esq., Co-Founder and Director of Development for The Progeria Research Foundation (PRF) with a check for $1,535 from the proceeds collected during March. Progeria is a fatal, rapid aging disease that afflicts children, who die of heart disease at an average age of 14.

The Bank’s relationship with PRF goes back many years. Since 2002, North Shore Bank has been the main sponsor of the organization’s annual 5K International Road Race and 3-mile Fun Walk held in Peabody each fall.

Kevin M. Tierney, Sr., President and CEO of North Shore Bank complimented PRF for their work and added:

“It’s pretty hard not to be moved by this organization and the work that they do. Their passion and determination to find a cure for this fatal disease is inspirational. We are thrilled to be able to assist them.”

Meryl Fink, President and Executive Director of The Progeria Research Foundation thanked North Shore Bank, and said:

“This generous donation from the North Shore Bank employees will be used to support The Progeria Research Foundation’s research programs and clinical trials.” She added, “PRF’s third clinical trial is now underway at Boston Children’s Hospital.  Donations received make it possible for PRF to fund the trial and coordinate all travel and lodging for the children and their families. The research funded by this donation will lead to better treatments and bring us closer to finding the cure for children with Progeria in the future.”

About The Progeria Research Foundation
The mission of The Progeria Research Foundation is to discover treatments and the cure for Progeria and its aging-related disorders, including heart disease. PRF was founded in 1999 in response to the complete lack of progress being made to help children with Progeria. Today, PRF continues to be the only organization in the world solely dedicated to this mission. With the support of dedicated staff and volunteers, a talented board of directors, courageous families, and thousands of generous people around the world, they are pushing the field of Progeria forward towards discovery, treatments, and cure.
