PEABODY, MASSACHUSETTS (www.northshore-bank.com) – North Shore Bank recently presented DanversCARES with a check for $1,200. The proceeds of this donation were raised by Bank employees as part of their weekly “Jeans Day” program. Each month, employees choose a local non-profit organization, and in exchange for $5 a week, they are allowed to wear jeans on Fridays. The accumulated funds are then donated to the chosen organization at the end of each month. Through the Bank's Jeans Day program, it has raised over $30,000 for local non-profit organizations and charitable funds to date.
In January, DanversCARES was nominated by North Shore Bank’s Danvers Branch staff. A program of the town of Danvers and managed through the school department, DanversCARES is a dynamic community partnership that supports youth and families in making healthy decisions.
Each year, Healthy Living Scholarships are awarded to two Danvers High School Seniors who best embody the mission and values of DanversCARES. The recipients have a proven track record of healthy living and positive, value-driven decision making. Each student receives a $1,000 scholarship to be applied to college costs.
Peg Sallade, Program Director of DanversCARES said:
“So many teens in Danvers live a healthy lifestyle and embody what DanversCARES is all about, so these scholarships are our way of giving back.” She went on to say, “We’re so thankful for
the support of the North Shore Bank employees. This generous contribution will help fund this year’s scholarships.”
Jodi Houghton, North Shore Bank’s Danvers Branch Manager said:
“DanvesCARES has been a champion for healthy living for over a decade. We’re proud to support any initiative that benefits the children in our community.” She continued, “It’s pretty hard not to be inspired by their commitment and we’re really gratified to be able to assist.”
DanversCARES is a program of the Town of Danvers, MA sponsored by the Danvers Public School Department and is funded by state and federal grants, local donations, and the Danvers Public Schools. As a prevention coalition, DanversCARES seeks to foster a community environment in which youth and families make healthy decisions. They work toward this by encouraging collaboration, expanding programs and services for youth and families, and by supporting systemic change.
