O'Connell Named President of Danvers Rotary

PEABODY, MA — (www.northshore-bank.com) — Each year, July signals a change of guard for Rotary Clubs around the world, and for one Danvers Rotarian it means leading her club to make significant contributions in the local community and worldwide. Mary Beth O’Connell, Vice President and Sales and Service Manager of North Shore Bank’s Danvers branch, was sworn in on June 21st as the new president of the Rotary Club of Danvers for 2016-2017 at the

Salem Country Club in Peabody.

Kevin M. Tierney, Sr., President and COO of North Shore Bank stated:

"The mission of a true community bank should be to support the many local charitable and civic organizations in the cities and towns you serve. In addition to the bank’s direct financial support to the many worthwhile organizations in our community, our employees volunteer countless hours to participate in community events and work on boards and committees that help the North Shore prosper.” He continued, “We’re proud of Mary Beth for her commitment to Rotary’s principles and congratulate her on this accomplishment.”

O’Connell has big plans for the 43-member civic club, including vocational mentoring, service projects, and membership recruitment and retention. She kicked off her upcoming year with a call to action for members to get involved and look for ways to enhance the public image and awareness of the club.

During her induction remarks she laid out her plan to support and strengthen the club by encouraging participation in a variety of service activities. The first being a Meal Packaging event that took place in July at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, where 20,000 meals were packed and distributed to local food pantries.

To increase humanitarian service, O’Connell said:

“I plan on reinstating the Interact Club at Danvers High School and involve the students to focus on programs and activities that support youth and young leaders.” She concluded, “We want our youth to know who we are and what we do.”

The main objective of Rotary is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. For more information on the Rotary Club of Danvers, visit www.clubrunner.ca/danvers.
