PEABODY, MA — ( On Fridays, customers of North Shore Bank will find their favorite bankers wearing casual attire and something a little unusual for the ordinary banker - denim jeans. That’s because at North Shore Bank, Friday is Jeans Day. In exchange for $5 each week, employees wear jeans to work while the proceeds collected are pooled together for the month and then donated to an area charity that is recommended by the employees.

Recently the Bank presented The Pettengill House with a check for $2,200 from the proceeds collected during April.  Formed in 1994, the mission of The Pettengill House is to support and empower children and families by providing education, comprehensive case management and basic needs; and by supporting and contributing to individual and family stabilization, personal growth and development.

Dorothy Roth, Vice President and Controller of North Shore Bank, recommended The Pettengill House as a recipient for their Jeans Day program.  Roth, who became acquainted with The Pettengill House three-years ago when she moved to the Merrimack Valley, said:

“My neighbor was working on a fundraiser for the Pettengill House and she told me about all the wonderful things the organization does for the community.”  She went on to say, “My sister is a speech therapist in the Salisbury school system and she had also shared stories of her positive experiences with the Pettengill House."

Deborah M. Smith, Executive Director of The Pettengill House stated:

“Hats off to North Shore Bank. I love the idea of Jeans Day while assisting a charity of choice. Pettengill House greatly appreciates the support and generosity from the North Shore Bank team. Their donation will be used to support Pettengill’s Children and Family Service Program by providing support for kids in need to participate in summer recreation programming."
