NSB Sponsors George Peabody Awards

Peabody, MA ( – For the past twenty-five years, between September and December, all third-graders from Peabody’s elementary schools visit the place of George Peabody’s birth to learn about their city’s namesake and his philanthropic ventures. After their tour, the children are asked to write an essay on what they have learned. Of all the essays submitted, the top three are chosen and displayed in all the schools throughout the remaining school year.

As annual sponsors of the contest, North Shore Bank provides savings accounts of $100 for the first place winner, $50 for the second place winner and $25 for the third place winner.

Chris Pesce, North Shore Bank’s Vice President and Marketing Officer said, “We are very proud to continue our support of this great event. We would like to congratulate, not only the students, but their parents and all of teachers and faculty at our schools in Peabody. George Peabody was a man who supported and gave back to his community, and we’re proud to continue that tradition.”

This year’s winners, Tony Molle, Jr. from West Memorial School, Alyssa Dang from John E. McCarthy School, and Makenna Sangster from William A. Welch School, were honored during a ceremony held at the museum, where they met with city dignitaries and received gift bags from the Bank. This year, two honorable mentions were also awarded to Morgan Rozansky from William A. Welch School and Mairead Walsh from South Memorial School.

Mary Lou DiSilva, Branch Manager of North Shore Bank’s Main Office and also a member of the Essay Judging Committee said, “These students should be very proud of themselves. They did a great job.”

North Shore Bank is a full-service community bank with eight branches in North Shore communities including Beverly, Danvers, Middleton, Peabody, and Salem, and maintains an online banking presence at
