North Shore Bank recently nominated Habitat for Humanity-North Shore for a $2,500 grant. The contribution was made as part of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston Grants for New England Partnership (GNP) program.

The GNP program was established by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston to recognize the importance of partnerships between their member institutions and community-based nonprofit organizations. Under the GNP program, eligible institutions such as North Shore Bank, choose a nonprofit organization to receive a $2,500 award and are asked to match that contribution. In place of their matching contribution, North Shore Bank made a $5,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity’s 2020 Build-a-thon.

Kevin M. Tierney, Sr., North Shore Bank’s Chief Executive Officer said of the program:

The bank is honored to be eligible for the GNP program that helps so many worthy non-profit organizations. He continued, “We’re grateful to be able to help those in our community who may be facing challenges in their everyday lives. Habitat for Humanity-North Shore is a great organization and helps so many families in our community.

Habitat for Humanity-North Shore is a committed group of people who believe that everyone deserves a place to live. They work in partnership with low-income families using volunteer labor, donated materials, wherever possible to renovate old houses or build new, inexpensive homes which are sold to families at cost with no profit and no interest. All mortgage monies received are recycled to be used for our next project. They are concerned with the quality of the families’ lives as well, and Habitat provides them with supportive services and other ministries.

Don Preston, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity-North Shore said:

This contribution means so much to all of us here at Habitat for Humanity-North Shore. Without these types of donations it would be very hard to provide the programs and services we offer to those experiencing homelessness.
