Be on the Alert For Vaccine Sweepstakes Scams

There is a good chance you’ve heard about the Massachusetts VaxMillions Giveaway. In short: Get vaccinated against COVID-19 and enter to win money. A lot of money.

While it sounds a bit too good to be true, the giveaway is legitimate and being run by the state of Massachusetts. Unfortunately, it could also be a setting for potential fraud – unless caution is taken. In fact, similar promotions that have been implemented in other states have resulted in frequent incidents of fraud.

Think Before You React

The promotion is running July 1 - August 19, 2021, with VaxMillions prize drawings conducted weekly  for five weeks. According to the official VaxMillions Giveaway web site, the first drawing is scheduled for July 26, 2021, and prizewinners will have just 24 hours to respond once they’ve been contacted. The VaxMillions contact page provides details on how you’ll be notified if you are chosen as a winner – click to read more. Remember, don’t let the need for quick action make you less cautious and careful.

Protect Your Personal Information

The VaxMillions official FAQs relate that you will not be asked about bank account, credit card or social security number information to participate. Should you suspect fraud or suspicious activity associated with the VaxMillions Giveaway Promotion, email support@vaxmillionsgiveaway.mass.gov as noted on the promotion web site.
