North Shore Bank has made a $35,000 contribution to the YMCA of Metro North’s newest location on Neptune Boulevard in Lynn. The new 70,000 sq. ft. downtown facility, which opened in the spring of 2021, was named after the Demakes family in recognition of their legacy of giving back and a lifetime of philanthropy.

The Demakes family spearheaded the capital campaign for the new building raising more than $12 million in capital donations from dozens of contributors, including North Shore Bank’s commitment to the project. In addition to being a longtime supporter, the Bank is also a 2022 Regional Sponsor supporting several YMCA events throughout the year.

Kevin M. Tierney, Sr., North Shore Bank’s Chief Executive Officer said:

This commitment was a great opportunity for the Bank to support the children and families in our community.” He added, “The new Demakes Y is really something special, and we’re proud to be a part of bringing the most advanced YMCA in the commonwealth to the North Shore.

Kathleen Walsh, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metro North said of North Shore Bank’s contribution:

North Shore Bank is on the cutting-edge of investing in communities and projects with impact. Their support for the development of the Demakes Family YMCA in Lynn was instrumental in creating this vital regional resource where people of all ages come to focus on their health and well-being, and where children have a welcoming space to grow.” She continued, “As we come up on the one-year anniversary of our opening, we’re grateful to North Shore Bank for their continued commitment to the mission of the YMCA of Metro North and to changing people’s lives for the better.

In addition to its aquatics center, gymnasium and fitness areas, amenities at the new Lynn YMCA include a healthy kitchen and café, a wellness and health screening center, a technology center and four preschool classrooms for its Y Academy education and childcare center.
