NSB Awards Scholarships to College-Bound Saugus High School Graduates

Peabody, MA ( — North Shore Bank has awarded two scholarships to recent Saugus High School graduates, Molly Shutt and Gabriela Marquez.

Shutt, a member of the National Honor Society, Model UN, Vistas, Ski & Snowboard Club and Powder Puff Football team, has been accepted to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell where she will major in Biomedical Engineering. She hopes to use her education to someday design and build improved prosthetics for people in need, with a focus on assisting wounded Military Service Members.

Marquez was the Treasurer of the National Honor Society, Class of 2017 Executive Board, Captain of the Swimming & Diving Team, played varsity Field Hockey, and was on the Prom Committee. She has been accepted to Brigham Young University where she will major in Nursing.

Since 1987, North Shore Bank has awarded almost $100,000 in scholarship money to Saugus High School graduates. Award recipients are chosen by a committee of bank employees and are based on a combination of criteria, including academic achievement. This year’s committee was comprised of Carol Varone, Assistant Vice President and Training Coordinator, Suzanne O’Brien, Assistant Vice President in the bank’s Lincoln Avenue branch, Julie Garland, Sales and Service Manager in their Hamilton Street Branch, and Geoff Leahy, Sales and Service Manager in the Lynn Fells Parkway Branch.

When asked about the program, North Shore Bank President, Kevin Tierney said:

“We look forward to the scholarship review process every year. We’re always so impressed by the quality of the applicants, and this year’s students were no exception.” He continued, “It’s comforting to know, particularly with the cost of education today, that we can provide some direct assistance to hard-working and deserving students.”
