In 2015 North Shore Bank instituted a weekly jeans day program whose main purpose was to raise money for local non-profit organizations and charities. In exchange for $5 each week, employees are allowed to wear jeans to work while the funds collected are pooled for the month and then donated to an area charity nominated by the employees. Since its inception, the bank has raised over $30,000 which benefited 21 organizations throughout the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.

North Shore Bank President and CEO, Kevin Tierney, said about the program:

“At the corporate level, community banks have always been generous contributors to a variety of local causes. However, we were looking for a way to further engage our employees and to enhance this giving with something that was more staff-directed; almost grass roots. The program has been a win-win for all parties, employees get to wear jeans on Fridays and in the process provide additional financial support to some really great area non-profits.”

Recently the bank made a $1,200 donation to North Shore Community Action Programs, Inc. (NSCAP), who provides social services that enable low-income families and individuals to obtain the skills and knowledge they need to become economically self-sufficient, civically engaged, and to live in dignity and decency.

Laura M. MacNeil, NSCAP Executive Director said,

“NSCAP’s Homelessness Prevention programs keep people in their homes: families with children, elderly, people with disabilities. We help them access available services such as food pantries, public benefits, unemployment or job training services, education and training, etc.”  She went on to say, “This contribution from the employees at North Shore Bank is much appreciated and will go a long way in helping the homeless in our community.”
