PEABODY, MASSACHUSETTS ( – Representatives from North Shore Bank recently stopped by the Great Oak Elementary School to present Principal Sharon Burrill with a check for $1,000.

In 2016, the Great Oak Elementary School set out on a campaign to raise $25,000 in order to replace its current playground. Although the current playground is still in use, sections are wearing down and the school has needed to make multiple repairs throughout the years.

According to Principal Burrill, “Playgrounds typically last 15 years and we’re at 18. So, at this point it’s really a matter of finding the replacement parts that are needed, and most just aren’t available.”

Burrill thanked North Shore Bank for their contribution.

“I’m so impressed to be receiving this generous donation from North Shore Bank. This is just another example of how this local bank consistently works to improve our neighborhoods for the children and families of Danvers.” She went on to say, “This donation by North Shore Bank now brings us over the $22,000 mark.”

Jodi Houghton, North Shore Bank’s Danvers Branch Manager said,

“We’re proud to be supporting this great cause.  When we heard of what the school was trying to do, as a community bank it’s hard not to step up and help out. Now, children in this community will be able to enjoy a new playground because of the schools hard work and dedication.”

Principle Burrill added,

“Because the playground is located in the center of a neighborhood, it’s not just a school playground, but it’s truly a community playground. Plus, with Great Oak’s park being the home field of the Danvers Girls Softball Team, the playground gets a tremendous amount of use.”
