(Peabody, MA) – On Saturday, September 10, 2016 downtown Peabody will be the site for the 15th Annual International Race for Research, which includes a 5K road race and a 2-mile fun walk. Sponsored by The Progeria Research Foundation (PRF) and its long-time partner North Shore Bank, this signature event is part of the city’s famous International Festival celebration. Check-in starts at 7:45am and the race kicks off at 9:00am at Leather City Commons, 53 Lowell Street, Peabody. Early registration (before 9/1) is $25 for the run, $20 for the walk, and $10 for children ages 3-10 (walk or run). Children under 3 are free (no t-shirt provided). Participants can also raise money by gathering sponsors for their run or walk.
“We keep adding to the race which is very exciting”, states Audrey Gordon, PRF’s Executive Director. “Last year we placed signs with inspiring quotes from Sam Berns along the course to motive everyone, and this year Meghan Waldron, our new Youth Ambassador, will lead her own team. Meghan, who has Progeria, is on her high school track team and handily completed the 2015 race with a competitive time. This year runners and walkers can join her team, simply by committing to raise $250 for PRF. Team members with get a Team Meghan pin, a Team Meghan group photo, and special recognition at the race.”
Progeria is a fatal, rapid aging disease that afflicts children, who die of heart disease at an average age of 14.
