Saugus, MA –(www.saugusbank.com) During this past school year, if you visited Waybright Elementary on the last Wednesday of any month, it wouldn’t have been unusual to find Saugusbank employees in the building along with the students and teachers. That’s because bank employees like Sharon Covell, were again participating in the year-long Savings Makes Cents program. Designed to foster economic literacy from an early age, the program involved monthly visits from bank employees, who engaged students through entertaining financial activities and practical experience — including making deposits into their savings accounts.
“It’s always so much fun to be in the school — the enthusiasm that the students display make the program all-the-more rewarding for bank employees.” said Sharon Covell, Senior Customer Service Representative at the Hamilton Street Office and Savings Makes Cents Coordinator. “As a result, there was generally no shortage of volunteers and throughout the year I was assisted by employees, Ashley DeFilippo, Shelly D’Eon, Diana DiPesa, Suzanne Flickinger and Jo-Ann Fimiani.”
A highlight of this year’s program was the year-end art contest, which challenged participants to illustrate drawings depicting an item for which they were saving (as well as how they would ultimately earn it). The art contest winners were Jack Sambataro(Kindergarten), Sara Rovcanin(Grade 1), Nicholas Sambataro(Grade 2), David Turilli (Grade 3) and Vincent Defarius (Grade 4). All entries will be on display for the month of July at Saugusbank’s three branch offices: Lynn Fells Parkway, Hamilton Street and Lincoln Avenue, Saugus.
