Abington Bank Sponsors 2024 Cotter Tournament
Abington Bank served as the exclusive sponsor of the Shawn P. Cotter Memorial Basketball Tournament that took place February 19 to 21, 2024 at Abington High School. The tournament featured boys’ and girls’ teams from Abington, Rockland, and Sandwich high schools as well as Cape Cod Academy.
Mr. Cotter was an attorney and a distinguished, lifelong resident of Abington. He also was chairman of the board and a board member of the North Abington Cooperative Bank, later Abington Bank, for more than a decade. Before practicing law, he was a teacher at Abington Jr. High School and coached several sports, including girls’ basketball. He also coached Abington Youth Basketball and was a founder of the Abington Education Foundation.
As the exclusive sponsor, Abington Bank funded all team and MVP awards as well as player and fan t-shirts. The bank also funds two annual scholarships in Mr. Cotter’s name for Abington High graduating seniors. Since 2010, the bank has provided nearly $80,000 in support through the tournament and scholarships in Mr. Cotter’s memory.
“Abington Bank is proud to once again sponsor this annual event in Shawn’s memory,” said Andrew J. Raczka, Abington Bank president and CEO. “Shawn was one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. This is truly the best event to help youth in the Abington community unlock their potential.”
