On April 15th, 2013, Elizabeth Norden’s life, like so many of us, changed forever – however, hers was so much more personal than most. As spectators of the Boston Marathon on that dreadful day, both of Liz’s sons JP and Paul each lost their right legs from the bombings and came close to losing their lives.
Her family’s situation, although horrific, was also blessed with a tremendous amount of love, prayer, and support of caring individuals from all over the world who reached out to lend a helping hand when her family needed it most. A Leg Forever was established by Liz in honor of her two sons, with a mission to pay it forward and assist other amputees in their time of need.
In September of 2019, the employees of North Shore Bank raised $1,000 through their weekly “Jeans Day” program to assist Liz and her foundation’s mission. Erin Riley, Manager of North Shore Bank’s Lynn Fells Parkway branch in Saugus suggested A Leg Forever as the recipient for their Jeans Day program and said:
We’ve helped so many great organizations with our Jeans Day program over the years. When I heard Liz’s story and the work her foundation was doing to help others in need, it seemed like an obvious choice.
The Boston Marathon bombings changed many family’s lives; 264 were injured and 16 lost limbs. Prosthetic limbs are needed every 3 to 5 years for amputees. The cost ranges from $50,000 to $140,000, depending on the make and model of the limb. Health Insurance varies and may only pay a portion of the cost. Sadly the amputee is responsible for the rest and many go without.
I would like to thank all the employees at North Shore Bank. Your generosity is beyond amazing. It really means a lot to our foundation. We will be able to help a very deserving amputee with bedside care all because of you. Our family has been blessed with so many caring and kind people, your generosity allows us to pay forward the kindness we were shown in a time of need and we really can't thank you enough. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
