NSB Sponsors Essay Contest

Shore Bank Sponsors the Annual George Peabody House Third-Grade Essay Contest

For the past twenty-one years, between September and December, over 500 third-graders from Peabody's eight elementary schools visit the place of George Peabody’s birth to learn about their city’s namesake and his philanthropic ventures. After their tour, the children are asked to write an essay on how they would use their money to help the world if they were a philanthropist.  Of all the essays submitted, the top three are chosen and displayed in all the schools throughout the remaining school year.

As annual sponsors of the contest, North Shore Bank provides savings accounts of $100 for the first place winner, $50 for the second place winner and $25 for the third place winner.

David J. LaFlamme, President and CEO of North Shore Bank said, “We have been supporting this event for the past 21 years and we are very proud to continue that support.  We would like to congratulate, not only the students here today, but their parents and all of the students who participated in this contest.  George Peabody was a man who supported and gave back to his community, and we would like to continue that tradition and we enjoy playing a small part in this event."

This year’s winners, Sara Mangiafico from the West School , Catherine Manning from the Center School, and Benjamin Winters from the McCarthy School were honored during a ceremony held at the museum, where they met with city dignitaries and received gift bags from the Bank.  Mary Lou DiSilva, Branch Manager of North Shore Bank’s Main Office and also a member of the Essay Judging Committee said, “These students should be very proud of themselves.  They did a great job."

North Shore Bank is a full-service community bank with eight branches in North Shore communities including Beverly, Danvers, Middleton, Peabody, and Salem.
